One of a series of 28 illustrations I did for this book project for Bill Roberts' Bottle of Smoke Press.
The guys who recorded Funkytown were from the twin cities, and people up there used to talk about the song with such pride, because, you know, it was locals and they were on the radio all over the world. Then Prince came along and those poor Funkytown boys were relegated to the dustbin. That Prince, he relegated a lot of people to the dustbin, and it pissed a lot of them off. Like Rick James. He was so convinced that Prince was taking all of his money that he got onto crack and fucked everything up. Even his wigs was nasty after a while there. Tragic.
